Chapter 3: The Way He Coaxes Me

Chapter Summary: The Inquisitor offers an unusual opportunity.
Trigger Warnings: None
Song for the chapter: The Devil is a Gentleman by Merci Raines

My grief-stricken mind was no adversary against the tempting promises of the Thirteenth Brother. He spoke to my deepest desires, and my boot-clad feet obeyed, trailing on his heels as a willing prisoner.

He didn’t give me a choice; he heard each vital secret I failed to protect and capitalized on my weakness. Using every traitorous thought he heard against me. I can’t be sure what he intends to do with me, but his power and sex appeal make it less troubling on my weary heart.

As we traverse the crowded streets, I keep track of where he is leading me. The only notable location here is the landing bay. It’s safe to assume we will board his ship, where I am much more vulnerable in the emptiness of space compared to the busy streets of Coruscant. I should escape before it’s too late.

My clouded thoughts beg me to wait for the wonderful things that are in store while under his care. The chance to feel his full lips and touch against more of my skin. But the rational part of me keeps screaming that this is an Inquisitor. A faithful servant of the Empire, an enemy of the Jedi, and carrying a red blade like the one that murdered my entire family while I watched from a nearby vent.

But in less than a minute, I had fallen under his seductive spell. His good looks weren’t the only contributing factor. It was the look in his eyes when he first gazed upon me. There was an intense desire I’ve never felt—a hunger.

I try to remind myself that I am a means to an end. I have important secrets in my head that benefit his endless hunt for the Jedi. He now knows multiple locations of an organization that hides traitors of the Empire and uses their gifts to undermine its authority.

Instead of disposing of me and taking advantage of the newfound intel, he kept me. For a reason I can’t identify. Perhaps he believes I am hiding more. Or maybe he seeks something else—something primal.

People give us a far wider berth than I had experienced minutes ago, staring as we pass. They point and whisper to one another, unable to contain their curiosity about my relationship with this Inquisitor. I hear them muttering the words “Jedi” and “whore”.

It isn’t a disrespectful comment about my character. I don’t look like a Jedi; I lack the powerful physique, and I’m not fighting back. So they are taking their next best guess about what an Inquisitor might want with me. They’re wrong. Carnal pleasure is not what he wants from me. It’s what I want from him.

The Inquisitor appears unbothered by the whisperings of the common folk. I suppose that is to be expected; people must whisper everywhere he goes. Perhaps I should heed their fear of him. Act like a Jedi and fight back. Or at least have the common sense to flee from a known killer.

My feet stop, and a step later, so does the Inquisitor.

“So you are going to attempt an escape,” he says. “I wasn’t sure you had it in you.”

His tone is mocking as he rounds on me, standing too close, peering down. He secures his loose gloves in an empty pouch on his belt as though preparing to give chase. Amusement curls on his lips, and he watches me with predatory eyes as I glance around the wide streets and narrow alleys, trying to plot an escape route.

“I wouldn’t recommend running, but you’re welcome to try. I might even give you a head start.”

My empty stomach flips at the prospect of him chasing me. I take a small step back, and he keeps pace, maintaining our close distance. Watching me with a distinct hunger that I still don’t understand. He straightens when I don’t bolt, giving me a curious look.

He reaches up, the back of his index finger traces down my cheek, leaving blooming heat in its trail. His gentle touch reawakens my undeserved loyalty to him, preventing me from further considering an escape.

I shake off the distracting touch, but he returns. I can’t stay here with him. My inaction makes me complicit in the downfall of a significant portion of the Rebellion. I need to resist, to run, to send a warning to the others. But I am rooted as I tilt my head to meet his heated gaze. Transfixed by the tempting undertones in his dark expression.

I tear my gaze away from him. This is shameful behavior.

“So focused on your duty to others,” he says. “A pathetic way to move through life.”

His words are foreign. The Rebellion prides itself on fighting for the greater good. My unwavering duty to others and rigorous loyalty are my best qualities. Yet, the way the Thirteenth Brother says it, it sounds like my downfall.

“What do you desire?”

The Inquisitor’s touch lingers, then drops away. He takes another small step forward, tilting his head and bidding me to look at him while I speak. His intense gaze is heavy as it traces over my frightened face, making it difficult to think up an adequate answer to his probing question.

When I cannot answer, he takes a threatening step forward, knocking me back, startling me out of my daze. My hands reach up, clinging to his plastoid armor to steady myself. Fingers catching on a canvas strap that crosses diagonally down his broad chest.

“Speak,” he says, making it known that he will not tolerate my silence further.

My tongue darts out to wet my chapped lips. “I want to feel…”

My mind blanks. I can’t think of anything I want more than his rough touch. I stare at the armor on his chest, the white Imperial crest standing out against the black plating. A warning displayed at eye level. A warning my loins ignore.

“To feel what?”

I suck in a shaky breath, giving the first answer that comes to mind. “Desired.”

The Inquisitor considers my earnest answer, watching me with a dangerous intensity. A smirk breaks the serious expression when he finds my answer satisfactory.

“Very good.”

He captures my right hand in his, tugging it off his imposing uniform. My pulse quickens as I feel his skin on mine. His fingers curl around the back of my hand as he uses his thumb to push on the junction where my fingers meet my palm, preventing them from curling around him.

I watch, rapt, as he pulls our joined hands up towards his plush lips without breaking eye contact. He lets out a measured, open-mouthed exhale. Heat dances across my fingertips.

As the breath dissipates, his plush lips capture the pad of my middle finger, dragging closed. His lips are warm, and the searing kiss ignites a fire that trails through my arm and down towards my lower belly.

The pad lingers on his bottom lip, tugging the flesh down as he lowers my hand towards the ground. I consider refusing the return of my hand, wanting more of his captivating mouth.

“I am not interested in keeping a prisoner. So, you have a decision to make. Come or stay.”

My mouth opens and closes, desperate for more information on what those two options might mean. If I walk away, will he strike Theo down without hesitation? Will he lead an attack on the Rebellion base where my friends are? Am I preventing his wrath by going with him?

“I’ll sweeten the pot,” the Thirteenth Brother says. “I’ll give in to your desires before you make your decision.”

He turns on his heel, heading for the landing bay, leaving me behind. I can’t understand any of his reasoning, but I know I want to experience all he offers. I choose desire over safety, and chase after the Inquisitor.
